At Blessed Electric & Air, we do all kinds of commercial & industrial electrical repairs. The most difficult aspect of electrical repairs is to find the cause of the problem. Nevertheless, troubleshooting is quite easy for our electricians because we use the latest diagnostic tools to check electrical problems.
By virtue of our experience, we have been able to gather some common electrical problems and their likely causes. Don’t get it twisted. We are not saying you should try to fix any of the problems yourself. It is not advisable to fix electrical faults if you’re not an electrician.
If it is only a particular light that flickers, the bulb may be loose, and its connection fails. You can try to tighten the bulb yourself. If the flickering stops after tightening, then that’s it. If that does not fix it, the issue may be caused by a faulty switch.
Another cause of flickering lights is poor wiring or weak and deteriorated wires. Rewiring your home may fix the problem. It is also possible that you have connected too many appliances to a single circuit. You need to redistribute them evenly.
Flickering lights may also be a sign that your electrical panel needs to be upgraded. Once you try to retighten your bulb and the flickering does not stop, call an electrician. Don’t try anything further. It means the problem is beyond you. Blessed Electric & Air will come over to troubleshoot and fix the problem in no time.
The first reason why your circuit breaker will trip is if the circuit is overloaded. Every circuit has its capacity, and when the capacity is exceeded, problems will begin. And when the circuit breaker trips, you’ll have to reset it.
When a short circuit occurs, the breaker may trip off to prevent something worse. A short circuit occurs when a live wire comes in contact with a neutral wire. The breaker could also trip off when a live wire touches the ground wire too.
An arc fault can make the breaker trip. Also, if the circuit is old and worn out, it could begin to trip. You need to get one thing clear. It is normal for a breaker to trip once in a while, but it becomes an issue when the problem occurs frequently. Another reason your breaker could trip is if your electrical panel needs an upgrade.
If your bulbs keep burning out frequently, the voltage from your main supply may be too high. Also, the wiring or the electrical panel may be faulty or old. If the bulb does not fit the holder tightly, it may burn out too. As a rule of thumb, when two or more bulbs burn out in the space of seven days, call an electrician to find out why?
Another common problem is shocking outlets and switches. When your outlets begin to shock, the problem usually lies in the wiring system. It is usually because there’s a problem with the wiring. We can inspect the wiring and troubleshoot the problem. In the end, we’ll fix it.
It is possible for one or more outlets to die off. They’ll no longer supply currents. A blown fuse or a tripped GEI should come to your mind first. Faulty wiring could also pull the stunt. Also, the outlet may be faulty and requires replacement.
